Huey Rosalia, Whyalla’s number 1 player took out the Men’s Open Singles in a tight 5 set match against Adelaide veteran David Lowe. Huey started slowly against the consistent Lowe, but once he got used to the unusual backhand rubber on Lowes bat, Rosalia edged away to a wonderful victory. The Women’s Open went to Adelaide player Chris Matthews with runner up ex-Whyalla girl Laurette Norton now playing in Murray Bridge. The Men’s Open Doubles was taken out by Adelaide pair David Lowe and Jim Coombe, they defeated the Rosalia brothers Huey & Olly in a great 5 set encounter. Local Women Pauline Stanley, almost straight from the hospital bed to the table tennis table, took out the Eyre Peninsula Women’s Singles over another local Anita Howard. Port Lincoln’s Rhys Popovic was the pick of the Junior’s taking out the Under 18’s, Under 16’s and the Under 14’s singles. Local lad Brandon Rosalia secured the Under 12 boys for Whyalla, while Port Augusta junior Kristen Long played well to take the Handicap event from Whyalla’s Matthew Hill.
