June long weekend in South Australia bought together a mix of players from Port Lincoln, Whyalla, River Land, Barossa and Light, Great Southern and Murray Bridge. Saturday began at 0830am with 8 teams of 3 fighting out for bragging rights in Men's A Grade. By 7pm Port Lincoln A Men took on Great Southern in the final trying to break a 3 year winning streak by Great Southern. Port Lincolns’ Simon Strycharski, Daniel Challinger and Aaron Sincock defeated Chris Gorman Junior, Kevin Pearce and Darren Lush in a hard fought show stopping display of table tennis. With diminishing numbers, Women's A and B grade was combined and a smaller draw of 4 teams saw a round robin played with all ladies playing each other. The day was won by Murray Bridge consisting of Heather Richards, Laurette Norton and Joy McKenzie against a valiant Mount Gambier (Lynda and Emily McPharlin and Julie Robinson). |

Men's B grade was well supported with 6 teams competing but both Mount Gambier teams were too strong for the rest of the field and played off in the final. Mount Gambier 1 consisting of Bernie Kuiper, Ben Rowe and Kane Stuckey taking out the day over Mount Gambier 2 (James Gurry, Brian Ling and Steve Maynard). The C grade was a mixed affair with 5 teams competing and again Mount Gambier was too strong with Andy McParlin, Dali B/Ling and Anthony winning convincingly. A Grade Country Player Rankings were determined by player’s team performances on Saturday. Sets were counted back to separate some of the players rankings. The following results list the A grade ranking players:
Sunday started at 815am with a challenge for officials to get games underway with 35 events, 9 tables and a projected finishing time of 11pm. The day progressed well with some very close matches and a great display of table tennis from the country players. After constant play Men's A Grade final ended the weekend with 2 team mates competing against each other for Country Singles Champion. Chris Gorman Jnr and Kevin Pearce played a close 5 set match with the same result as 2007. Chris taking the hard fought honors over Kevin. The other winners and runner up results are listed in the table on the right with congratulations to all players that partook, great mateship and rivalry developed to hold us in good stead for 2009.
