What benefits do I get out of table tennis?

Firstly and most importantly table tennis is a fun sport to play. Table tennis helps to improve coordination skills, concentration and fitness. Table tennis is also a great way of meeting and making new friends.

Because table tennis is a world wide sport once you learn how to play you can play anywhere that you go. There are table tennis clubs all over Australia and the world.

Table tennis also offers the opportunity to play for your State and to represent Australia at the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics.

What is a ‘SmashHIT’ table tennis match?

A table tennis match consists of the best of 3 games and the winner is the player who first wins 2 games. A game is played up to 11 points, the winner being the first to 11. Each player serves 2 serves then the next player serves 2 serves and so forth. Games are only part of the Smash Hit experience.

What is the format of the program?

The program will start with a few weeks of fun table tennis games and activities to introduce you to the rules, shots and plays.

Once you have learnt the rules and are confident to play, you will be play games within groups and other table tennis styled activities.

In arranging the groups they will be as even as we can make them so that you get to play against others of the same ability.

Will I need to have my own table tennis bat?

No, clubs have bats that you can use, or bring your own from home if you have one. There are bats available from the clubs at affordable prices.

Does the bat have to have rubber on it?

Yes, a proper table tennis bat has to have black rubber on one side and a red rubber on the other side. The rubber is so that you can add spin when hitting the ball.

What if I can't come every week?

We understand that not everyone will be able to come every week and that is OK. You only pay the $5 weekly playing fee on the weeks that you come.

Will I have to umpire a game?

Yes, everyone will take turns at umpiring. Umpiring is not hard to do and we will show you how to do it. Parents also will be able to help with umpiring.

Table tennis is like all other sports in that there has to be an umpire to have a fair match.
